Adirondack tours at Ausable Chasm offer breathtaking views around every corner, and our Classic Tour is the most popular of all! A 2-part tour that allows visitors a complete end-to-end visit of the chasm with a trolley/shuttle return to the welcome center once completed. One mile walk required.
You'll step back in time as you walk our scenic nature trails in the midst of a primeval Adirondack Forest. Stroll past Rainbow Falls, Elephant's Head, Column Rock, Hyde's Cave and the eerie quiet of Mystic Gorge. Descend hundreds of feet to walk within the chasm on natural stone walkways and bridges to gaze upon eons of geologic history etched in stone. Our many bridges, stairs and vistas make this unique adventure possible. A truly breathtaking experience!
After a minimum one mile walk, you’ll board a raft and float through the narrowest and deepest region of Ausable Chasm. Experienced guides navigate the rafts between the towering cliffs of the Grand Flume, past the Broken Needle and around the Whirlpool Basin while discussing the geology and history of the chasm. The rapids found mid-way through the float tour are always a visitor favorite!
Following the float tour, guests have several options. You can explore the Rim Trail for birds-eye views of the chasm, meander through two smaller "dry" chasms on the Dry Chasm Trails, or simply hop aboard one of our trolleys for a quick and easy return to the welcome center.
In the welcome center, visitors will find a cafe open seasonally with a wide assortment of lunch items, ice cream and snacks as well as a large gift shop loaded with a variety of gifts, t-shirts and souvenirs.
The float tours are very popular during the summer. We advise you to come early to avoid a possible wait for the optional float tour portion of your visit. Reservations are not possible, so you might wait 30 minutes more more between 12pm and 2pm. We think the experience is worth the wait, but if you don't have ample time, please arrive early. We open at 9am, daily.

This special 3-part tour package includes all of the Classic Tour above as well as our new Adventure Trail via ferrata.
What is the Adventure Trail? It's unique, family-friendly experience consisting of cable bridges, a cargo net climb, edge walks and more. It's similar to a cable or ropes course, but much more scenic and adventurous. Instead of progressively getting harder until you fail it is instead meant to allow safe passage through an otherwise impassable region of the chasm: the spectacular upper chasm!
