Rappelling in the Adirondack Mountains has never been so much fun!

Ready to trade fear for exhilaration? Join our rappelling adventure at Ausable Chasm and experience the Adirondacks from a whole new angle — literally. This guided course blends heart-pounding exposure with expert instruction, jaw-dropping river views, and the kind of bragging rights you can’t get anywhere else.

What to expect

• A progressive, confidence-building route that starts with a 30-foot rappel and a 150-foot tyrolean (cable) traverse, and finishes with an 80-foot rappel followed by a 200-foot traverse — suspended 130 feet above the Ausable River.
• Hands-on coaching from certified guides: we teach technique, control and safe ropework before you step over the edge.
• A physically engaging tyrolean traverse — you’ll use upper-body strength to pull across the cable, so being reasonably fit helps.
• Breathtaking scenery and unique photo opportunities you won’t forget.

• Duration: 2 hours
• Cost: $75 per person  + $19.95 adult admission to Ausable Chasm required
• Age: 13+ (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
• Weight: Minimum 60 lbs — Maximum 250 lbs. For safety, guests near the limits may be asked to complete a discreet weigh-in.
• Group size: Small groups for personalized coaching and safety — maximum 6 to 8 participants per guide.

What we provide

• All technical gear: helmets, harnesses, rappell devices, ropes and anchored systems inspected to industry standards.
• Pre-tour safety briefing and hands-on practice.
• Professional guides are fully trained and certified in rescue procedures and first aid.

What to bring & wear

• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (long pants recommended)
• Sturdy closed-toe shoes with good grip (hiking shoes or approach shoes ideal)
• Gloves if you prefer extra hand protection (we’ll also have gloves available)
• Water, sunscreen, and a small snack for energy

Safety & accessibility

• Strict safety checks and routine equipment inspections.
• Participants must be able to follow directions, manage stairs and short hikes, and have functional upper-body strength for the tyrolean.
• Not recommended for pregnant guests or those with recent neck/back injuries or serious medical conditions — please contact us to discuss specific concerns.
• Weather & conditions policy: tours may be modified or rescheduled if river or weather conditions make the route unsafe.
