UPDATED 6/12/20

Dear Valued Guests,

Ausable Chasm is happy to announce that we are opening our trails starting June 15th!  Our 5 miles of scenic trails through the oldest natural attraction in the United States to view unique rock formations such as Elephant's Head, Column Rock, Hyde's Cave and Jacob's Well will be available.  Currently rafting, tubing and the adventure trail remain closed.  We are expecting to open our river walk by the end of June.  The Riverwalk is in the same upper chasm region as the Adventure trail, with similar scenery and views as it follows along the river at the bottom of the chasm with 150’ walls towering on either side.  The end of the tour features 2 cable bridges very similar to the adventure trail and has netting on the sides so that harnesses and helmets are not required.

The safety of our staff and guests is our number 1 priority.  We have prepared for our opening with this in mind, and are happy to share some of the considerations we have taken:

Capacity

  • Tickets must be pre-purchased online to reduce the amount of hand-to-hand interactions.
  • A limited number of tickets will be sold per hour to reduce capacity.
  • The welcome center will be open only to redeem admissions, make gift shop and/or cafe purchases, and use of the restrooms.
  • The welcome center will only allow 50% of allowed capacity.
  • All staff and guests must wear masks while inside the welcome center and when unable to maintain social distancing.

Social distancing and PPE

  • Face masks are required to enter the welcome center.  All staff and guests will wear a face mask when unable to maintain social distancing.
  • Signs and floor markers are in place to remind guests of social distancing.
  • Commonly touched areas will be reduced (i.e. doors will remain open to limit exposure to door handle and push bars).

Sanitization

  • We have employed additional staff to ensure our facilities are clean.
  • Restrooms will be disinfected routinely
  • Additional staff have been employed to routinely disinfect handrails on all 5 miles of our trails.

Be Well,

The Ausable Chasm Team

UPDATED 6/8/20

Dear Valued Guests,

Good news! Staff is back to work and we are preparing to reopen the park very soon. Our target reopening date is June 15, 2020. Initially, all five miles of hiking/walking trails within the park will be open to allow visitors the ability to explore all regions of the chasm, including the popular Inner Sanctum Trail, Rim Walk, and others. Guided group activities such as the river float tours, lantern tours, and the Adventure Trail will remain paused at this time. RESERVATIONS WILL BE REQUIRED: To prevent congestion during peak hours we will be requiring advance reservations that will limit the number of guests that can enter the park each hour. Reservations will be possible starting June 12th and will be available for no more than two weeks in advance, with additional weeks added on Friday's.

Hope to see you soon as we celebrate our 150th anniversary!

Be Well,

The Ausable Chasm Team

UPDATED 5/26/20

Dear Valued Guests,

Summer is nearing and the COVID-19 pandemic remains a major concern.  As we are planning the reopening Ausable Chasm we would like to assure you that we are focused on three things:

  1. Continuing to provide exceptional service and safety for our guest
  1. Ensuring the safety of our team members
  1. Supporting local & regional efforts to limit the spread and impact of COVID-19

We are constantly and carefully monitoring the situation and will adhere to all mandates and recommendations placed on us by New York State, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and others.

Currently, the re-opening of attractions is included in Phase IV of the Regional Guidelines for Re-Opening New York.  Without an exemption our earliest anticipated opening is June 27th.

When able to do so, we are hopeful that we can open the park in its simplest form: walking and hiking to explore the wonderful beauty the Chasm has to offer.  Plans for such have already been established and we are simply waiting for a green light from state and local officials.  Other activities such as rafting, tubing, adventure trail, rock climbing, and others, will open when deemed safe to do so.

We are continuing to take additional precautions and ask that you help us to do the same for our businesses, community, and country. The CDC has advised for no unnecessary travel. If you are sick, stay home and continue social distancing.

AUSABLE CHASM CAMPGROUND:  At this time, the campground anticipates a re-opening on June 19th.  We hope to have a specific date to announce very soon and will update this page once known.  Camping guests with a reservation prior to June 19th are encouraged to call to discuss your options.  Please know that if we are unable to open for your reserved dates, full refunds will be given.

Be Well,

The Ausable Chasm Team

UPDATED 5/22/20

Dear Valued Guests,

While the Memorial Day weekend is typically the start of our regular season, we regret to inform you that the park will remain CLOSED and our 150th Anniversary Season remains postponed. We do not have a reopening date to announce at this time. Please have a safe holiday weekend and take some time to remember those who did not survive while serving in the US military.

Be Well,

The Ausable Chasm Team
