Here's a list of commonly asked questions. For questions regarding specific activities, please refer to the page for that activity.
Depending on the activities desired, length of visit can range anywhere from 2 hours to a full day or more. For guests looking to make the most out of their visit we recommend arriving early in the day. We open everyday at 9 am.
We have lockers available to rent from our gift shop located in the Welcome Center. If you are taking a float tour and want to secure items, or have personal belongings which you do not want to get wet, we highly encourage storing these items.
Drones are not permitted to fly at Ausable Chasm to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors, protect wildlife, and preserve the natural environment. Additionally, FAA Part 107 states that drone operators must not fly over people, which is particularly relevant here at Ausable Chasm where staff and guests are under the flight path either walking trails, on cable bridges, or riding on rafts and tubes.
For all guests staying at the campground, your admission is valid for entire length of stay. Wristbands issued at the welcome center must be worn at all times.
No alcohol is permitted at the Ausable Chasm Welcome Center, on our walking trails or activities. For safety reasons we cannot allow persons visibly intoxicated to participate in activities.
The Welcome Center, including café, gift shop and museum is ADA compliant. However, due to the abundance of stairs and natural terrain the trails are not wheelchair accessible.
The trails cannot accommodate strollers. However, we do have child backpack carriers available to rent at our gift shop for a modest fee.
No pets are allowed on the trails. Service animals are allowed only in the welcome center, gift shop, café, museum, and on the rainbow falls and elephant head trails. This is for the safety of both the animal and the customers. Pets and service animals are allowed at the campground (see campground page for restrictions).
Our café, which is open seasonally, is located in the welcome center and serves a wide variety of lunch items made to order such as sandwiches, paninis, hamburgers, soup and much more. Come and enjoy some of our signature sandwiches and burgers named after unique Ausable Chasm features, such as our Sandstone and Devil's Oven Paninis!
The raft float tour takes between 15 and 30 minutes depending on river conditions. However, please plan 2 or more hours for the complete raft tour.
The tube ride usually lasts 30-60 minutes depending on the river current, so please prepare to spend 2.5-3 hours from the classic tour.
Generally customers remain dry during the raft tour. The bottom of the boat may contain some water, so we usually recommend tying shoes to your life vest if you do not want them to get wet. However, as with any activity on the water, there is always a chance of getting wet, so please prepare accordingly.
Besides dressing appropriately for the weather, proper footwear will be required for certain activities. Please view individual activity page for requirements.
No weapons or any type of firearm are permitted on Ausable Chasm property.
