Ausable Chasm is conveniently located just off of I-87 between Exits 34 and 35.
We are just 12 miles South of Plattsburgh, NY (the areas largest city - located on famous Lake Champlain) and just one mile North of
historic Keeseville on Route 9. |

From the North
(Montreal/Plattsburgh): There are
several options for those traveling from the North. The
quickest and easiest Route is to take I-87 South (from Montreal
take I-15 South to I-87 South) to Exit 35. Take a left off
of the exit on Route 442 East (also called Bear Swamp Road) and
follow for a few miles to Route 9. Take a right on Route 9
(South) and follow to Ausable Chasm (approx. 3 miles).
A great option for those who may want a more
scenic drive is to follow Route 9 South along Lake Champlain.
This Route provides many scenic landscapes and picnic
opportunities. |

From the South
(Lake George/Albany/NYC): The
shortest route from the South would be to take I-87 North to
Exit 34. Take a right off of the Exit onto Route 9N North
and follow through Keeseville for a few miles to Route 9.
Head North on Route 9 for about one mile to Ausable Chasm.
For those with a little more time you may want
to travel a very scenic route along Lake Champlain. This
route, dubbed
"Lakes
to Locks Passage: The Great Northeast Journey,"
is loaded with scenic views, fabulous history, and numerous
picnic areas. No matter where you start along this route
you will find quaint little villages where the locals are eager
to welcome you. The numerous shops along the way
will provide you with unique gifts and the many eateries
showcase a wide selection of area foods that will keep you

From the East
(Burlington, VT):
The most direct, most scenic, and
easiest route is via the
Lake Champlain Ferry that
departs from Downtown Burlington, VT (King Street Dock) and land
at Port Kent, NY (Just a few miles away). The crossing is
about one hour across the widest section of Lake Champlain.
The Green Mountains to the East and the Adirondack Mountains to
the West provide stunning landscapes that are a photographers
dream. Once you arrive at Port Kent just follow Route 373
(West) up the hill to Ausable Chasm. There is a special
package available for those who will be taking the ferry

From the West
(Lake Placid/Watertown):
Ahhh...traveling through the
Adirondacks! While the roads are winding and the routes
are much less direct, the views are absolutely spectacular.
Traveling amongst towering 4,000 foot mountains and along our
many rivers, streams, and lakes makes this route a
one-of-a-kind.
For those beyond the Saranac
Lake Region take Route 3 East to there and then Route 86 East through
Lake Placid and on to Jay, NY. In Jay, take a left onto
Route 9N (North) and follow through AuSable Forks and Keeseville
to Route 9 North. We are just one mile North of Keeseville
on Route 9. |

Public Transportation
(Air, Land or Sea): Water (via Lake
Champlain):
We've already mentioned the ferry
for those who are traveling across Lake Champlain from points
East. Other travelers on Lake Champlain can dock at Port
Kent and use personal bikes for the short trek on Route 373 or
maybe take a hike. Taxi service is available on a limited
basis.
Train:
Other options for those
traveling from the North or South includes the very popular and
scenic
Adirondack train by
Amtrak. You can get to
within a few miles of Ausable Chasm by using the station at
Port Kent, NY. From Port
Kent you'll have to bike, hike or call for a taxi. Hikers
may want to consider a route through
Wickham Marsh or a simpler
route along Route 373 - either way it's a wonderful adventure!
There is a payphone available at the station for those who do
not have a cell phone, but do not plan on personal assistance at
the station as it is not staffed. We can arrange to pick
you up if you will be staying overnight at our campground or

there is only one train available each day and overnight
accommodations will be required if utilizing the train service.
Plane:
NEW!
Plattsburgh International Airport
is now open for business (June 18, 2007)! Just 10 miles
away, this airport makes traveling to our region a cinch.
Of course, you'll need other transportation from the airport
such as a rental car (Hertz
available there). Shuttles may be provided in
